1. ‘Fuel stocks sufficient in State’: CM urges calm as motorists crowd outlets
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin urged the public not to panic about the availability of fuel and cooking gas, saying the Centre has reiterated that the country has sufficient stock.
Retail fuel outlets across Chennai, as well as in other cities and towns in the State, have been witnessing a sudden spike in customer volume since last afternoon. Some petrol bunks even ran dry.
2. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar assumes additional charge as T.N. Governor
Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekarassumed additional charge as Tamil Nadu Governor at Lok Bhavan in Chennai.
Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari administered the oath of office to Mr. Arlekar. The outgoing Governor R.N. Ravi has been posted as the Governor of West Bengal.
Hailing from Goa, Mr. Arlekar assumed office as Governor of Kerala in 2025. Prior to that, he served as Governor in Himachal Pradesh and then as Governor of Bihar. Before his gubernatorial roles, Mr. Arlekar was BJP’s Goa State president.
3. Thoothukudi schoolgirl murder: Parties slam DMK govt.
Demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and refusing to receive the body of the 17-year-old girl, a class XII student who was found murdered at Kulathur in Thoothukudi district, relatives and villagers staged a road blockade at V.V.D. signal in the district.
Meanwhile, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay expressed shock over the alleged sexual assault and murder of the schoolgirl and condemned the DMK government for failing to act promptly to ensure safety of women.
4. Sri Lankan Navy arrests two Rameswaram fishermen
Two fishermen from Rameswaram were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy personnel on charges of poaching in the early hours. They were taken to the naval port in Talaimannar for further interrogation.
5. TVK will contest all 234 Assembly constituencies on its own: Sengottaiyan
Amid speculations of the party joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) high-level administrative committee chief coordinator K.A. Sengottaiyan, while addressing reporters in Erode, said TVK would contest from all 234 Assembly constituencies in the State.
He added that the party leadership would identify candidates for all 234 constituencies.
